Revolution launch: Fall 2006?

Nintendo Power Magazine
There are reports that the Nintendo Power hotline is suggesting a Revolution launch for fall of 2006. It says:

”When Nintendo’s new console, codenamed Revolution, arrives in the later half of 2006, everyone will discover the meaning of all-access gaming.”

Thats 1 year after Xbox360, and probably a few months after Playstation 3. How will Nintendo catch up, or do they even need to? They kind of took themselves out of the competition already if you ask me.

Anyone here a subscriber of Nintendo Power? I used to be, way back.....in the early 90's? The days when the original NES was all that. Sigh, the good'ole times.

you know, i love nintendo, always have, mario is the shit. but they are losing the console battle right now. the gamecube doesn't get much love. however, if this system is good, it won't matter when it comes out. it's either going to be loved or hated i think. i can't see a middle ground for this system.

    Doug,

I think you're absolutely right about Nintendo losing the console war. They've been losing ever since the launch of the N64. The Gamecube is dead I think. I believe there was an interview recently with someone from Nintendo where even they admit that the Gamecube has come to its end.

IGN recently had an article that talked about how many important game developers like what Nintendo is doing with the Revolution. Hopefully, this is a sign of better things to come for Nintendo.

    Only time will tell.

I think they have lost because of disk size (and with the N64, because they had cartridges instead of disks.) For some reason now people want DVD players inside of their game consoles. I say, if you want to watch DVDs, buy a DVD player, the consoles are for games. I love Nintendo. Definitely my favorite game company. It is such a great company and not too intense like Sony and Microsoft, it is great. With the new revolution, they really went outside the box, so hopefully people will show them some love for that.

A bunch of people are saying the Revo is coming out in between the 360 and the PS3, but who knows.

    Ton,

As of right now, the Revolution is definitely scheduled to come out inbetween the Xbox360 and PS3. It looks more and more like Summer 2006. If the reports of Xbox360 console shortages are true, then thats great!

Zam, I agree with you in that cartridges killed Nintendo at a time when everyone moved onto CD's and DVD's. Remember when the N64 was supposed to be a joint venture between Nintendo and Sony where sony developed this add on CD ROM drive beneath Nintendo's next gen system (N64)? The deal broke off, Sony got pissed and created the Playstation themselves and have dominated ever since.

What a shame...imagine Nintendo and Sony working together building great hardware and software. There would absolutely be no Xbox if that were the case!

Thanks a lot for posting guys! It keeps things interesting!!

No wait, Sony and Nintendo were supposed to team up on the Super Nintendo, not the N64. There was supposed to be a connect to the SNES that played CDs called the Playstation (hmm, doesn't that sound familiar) but at the last minute, Nintendo dropped out and went to little old Phillips. I think then the CD-I was born, but i am not completely sure about that. But overall, it failed.

    Zam,

I think you got it...it WAS the SNES and Sony working on the playstation. It was almost a done deal until Nintendo backed out at the last minute. You think the person that made that decision is still employed there? LoL!

LOL, that would be funny if he still was.

I think Nintendo's got a good strategy in releasing their system last. All the media attention for XBox 360 and PS3 will have calmed down, and they can really show off. Plus, with the system at such a low price (current estimates are $99-150), gamers won't feel so bad about buying another new console. Especially one that's so different.
